Some artistic names are carefully created. Others simply find their owner.

The story of Victor Annunaki began long before the name officially appeared on an album.

In the early 1990s, Montréal composer, songwriter, producer and recording artist Rani Stetie was recording at the legendary RCA Victor Studios while building what would become a lifelong catalogue of original music. Around that same time, while working in the hospitality industry, one of his clients accidentally addressed him as "Victor." It was a simple mistake, everyone laughed, and life went on.

Or so it seemed.

​

A few years later, while pursuing his Master's degree in the United Kingdom, the name unexpectedly returned. Rani and one of his closest friends often explored London's vibrant lounges and nightlife. His friend, gifted with a natural talent for meeting people, would playfully introduce himself as a fashion designer before presenting Rani as "Victor," the owner of an imaginary design house. The harmless game became an entertaining way to break the ice and start conversations with new people.

Soon, the name seemed to develop a life of its own.

Whether in London, Cologne, or elsewhere in Europe, friends and acquaintances casually introduced him as Victor. In Cologne, he became "Victor the DJ." On another occasion, a close friend jokingly cast him as her own version of James Bond, calling him "Victor Bond." Venue owners, promoters, and even people meeting him for the first time naturally began referring to him as Victor.

 

None of it was planned.

Years later, after returning to Montréal in the mid-2000s and continuing his recording career, something curious happened once again. Friends, acquaintances, and even people at neighbourhood cafés began recognizing him as Victor. The name had quietly become part of his identity.

​

Rather than resist it, Rani embraced it.

​

The musical project officially emerged with the release of Les Folies de Victor, followed by Obscure Emotions, A World Gone Mad, and most recently Disco Mirage. Each release explores a different musical landscape while remaining rooted in the same creative vision.

 

As the project evolved, Rani and longtime friend and producer S. Galante felt that Victor deserved a family name. Inspired by humanity's fascination with the ancient Anunnaki legends and mankind's enduring search for its origins, Rani chose "Annunaki" as Victor's artistic surname. It was a creative decision that completed the identity while reflecting a lifelong curiosity about history, mythology, and civilization.

Victor Annunaki was never the result of a marketing strategy or a manufactured alter ego. The name emerged naturally through years of friendships, travel, humour, coincidence, and countless unexpected encounters across Montréal, London, Cologne, and beyond....

There is a fine line between the two. Sometimes they overlap. Sometimes they move in opposite directions. Yet both remain expressions of the same artist.

​

If Rani represents reflection, storytelling, and emotion, Victor embraces instinct, rhythm, imagination, and experimentation. Together they navigate the same artistic journey, much like the ancient concept of yin and yang, where apparent opposites exist in harmony and complete one another.

Victor is not another person.

​

He is another perspective.

​

Behind every Victor Annunaki production stands the same composer, songwriter, producer, and musician, Rani Stetie. Together, they reflect the balance between tradition and innovation, emotion and energy, thought and instinct. It is this balance, this constant dialogue between two creative perspectives, that continues to shape the music released by Inar Music.

Sometimes an artist creates a character.

Sometimes, the character quietly finds the artist.
